Dog Fighting Awareness

Dog fighting is a serious crime in Georgia and is often connected to other illegal activities such as gambling, drugs, weapons, and gang activity. Dogs used for fighting may also pose a danger to people, and exposure to this violence can negatively affect children.

Possible Signs of Dog Fighting

Citizens may notice one or more of the following:

  • Multiple dogs kept on heavy chains or with weighted collars

  • Suspended tires or similar items used for jaw-strengthening

  • Dogs being walked, jogged, or exercised on treadmills

  • Presence of small animals used as bait

  • Groups of people coming and going with dogs

  • Activity around abandoned houses, garages, warehouses, wooded areas, or secluded locations

Dogs involved in fighting may show:

  • Cropped ears

  • Scars, wounds, or punctures

  • Heavy collars or equipment

  • Signs of recent injury

What You Can Do

Dog fighting is dangerous and often involves weapons and other criminal behavior. If you suspect dog fighting:

  • Report it to the police immediately

  • Your report can be kept confidential
